I hate carpet. More so, I hate the carpet in my closet. My closet had moisture problems (now taken care of) which resulted in mildew. I had to hand-wash almost everything in the closet (which was mostly all expensive and delicate clothing). I cleaned the walls and everything. Then I tackled the carpet.
Took all the precautions I could. Sprayed hospital grade disinfectant multiple times over various days (of course it dried quickly). I sprayed some carpet cleaner that's supposed to dry in less than an hour, worked it in. A few hours later, sprayed a little bit more. Let it sit to dry for a couple of hours. Sprinkled baking soda, let it sit for an hour. Sprinkled carpet deodorizer on top of all that, let it sit for another hour.
I was hesitant to use the normal vacuum cleaner (but couldn't find bags for the mini Dirt Devil and need a hose for the wet/dry shop vac). I did actually rig up a shopping bag to serve as a ghetto vacuum bag for the Dirt Devil but the vacuum didn't appear to suck anything up and I think the bag came loose on the inside...
Finally gave in and decided to use the regular vacuum (which is a bagless model) since I could give it a good cleaning afterwards. I thought everything would be bone dry, especially with all the time I left in between each round of products. I had almost everything vacuumed up when I realized that the carpet was quite damp. It's been a nasty mess dissembling that thing to let it all air out and dry! I just hope I didn't do any damage to the vacuum! Ugh, I was trying to be so careful and cautious but it's literally turned into a bigger mess.
